It All Started with a Boat Trip

Water guns are something everyone knows. But most are bulky, inaccurate, and clearly intended for children. Sebastian Walter saw the problem – and suddenly had an idea. In 2015, during a rafting trip, it became clear to him that there was no water gun that was technically convincing, looked modern, and was suitable for adults. So, he began tinkering.

Three years later, Sebastian founded Spyra in Munich, with the goal of completely rethinking the concept of a water gun. Electronics, batteries, displays – all features typically found in smartphones or gaming accessories. This fusion of technology and design was at the core of the idea.

The products are mainly aimed at so-called "Kidults" – adults who have kept their playful spirit. And they take the topic seriously. "I wanted a water gun that fits this time," says Sebastian. What has come from it has now successfully created its own category.

From Prototype to Mass Production

The beginning wasn't easy. Technology, production, and logistics all had to be developed simultaneously. Nevertheless, Spyra made a strong start in 2018 with the most successful German Kickstarter campaign of the year. The SpyraOne led the way, followed by SpyraTwo, SpyraThree, and most recently the compact SpyraGO. Each new model was more precise, more powerful, and better thought out.

Above all, the SpyraThree has proven to be the most successful. It shoots accurately, reloads automatically, shows the water level on the display, and has a range of up to 15 meters(!). Technically, it’s ahead of its category, and it stands out visually as well. So, Spyra doesn't compete with traditional water guns. Their products are more durable, more precise, and look like design objects.

And their target audience? Adults who want to play without compromising on quality! As is often the case, similar products or copies of these successful water guns have started appearing on the market. But Spyra continues to rely on innovation, close engagement with the community, and solid craftsmanship. Those looking for the original will eventually end up here.

From a Click to a Package

With growth came the realization that Spyra needed more than just great products. When selling internationally and receiving orders from different countries simultaneously, the operational side had to keep up. That’s why the team decided early on to outsource logistics – to save time and focus on what makes Spyra stand out: development, product quality, and direct communication with the community.

Shopify serves as the foundation. Multiple stores, each tailored to language, currency, and market, make international sales easier. This is complemented by custom tools and direct integrations, including with Quivo’s logistics software. Everything stays centrally monitored, without getting complicated.

With Quivo as their fulfillment partner, the system is complete. The integration is seamless, orders are automatically processed, and shipped reliably, even across borders. This keeps processes lean, reduces errors, and makes it possible to quickly expand into new markets without having to start from scratch each time. This allowed Spyra to grow efficiently without losing control!

Power, Precision, Playfulness

The SpyraThree is the best-selling water gun: it looks great, fits comfortably in your hand, and delivers serious pressure. Instead of water mist, targeted water pellets are used. "Many underestimate how much fun such a thing can be. But as soon as you pull the trigger for the first time, you're hooked," says Sebastian.

There's a lot of technology packed in – automatic reloading, digital display, and three game modes. And all of this is wrapped in a well-thought-out design. Once you’ve tried it, you'll quickly realize how seriously this game device was developed.

The SpyraThree is not the end. With the water balloon launcher SpyraGravity and the planned arena concept, the whole idea is taking on a whole new dimension.

The Next Round is Already in the Works

Spyra has big plans ahead: new models are in development, new game ideas are emerging, and the community is growing steadily, as innovative products spread by word of mouth. That’s why they’re constantly evolving, just like the team and the brand behind it.

Sebastian is convinced: “Sustainability, innovation, and enthusiasm go hand in hand. We’re showing how well they can work together.” What started as a simple idea on a trip has now become a company that moves forward with a clear vision and plenty of energy.
